HEMEL Hempstead Town FC has announced some major changes to the team structure for the 2012/13 season, including the winding-up of the reserve team.

A club spokesman said: “As part of the club’s future plans to create a football academy, and following meetings between the chairman, football director and the reserve and youth team management, the board have decided that there will be no reserve team at Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club next season.

“The club would like to focus their attention on the youth teams to ensure that young players are managed and coached to a better standard so they can progress through their respective youth teams and eventually be good enough to play in the first team.”

Looking forward, the club are planning to create an U21 team for the 2013/2014 season to further progress the academy plan.

Meanwhile, the Tudors have announced exciting pre-season friendlies against Reading and MK Dons.

Premier League side Reading will visit Vauxhall Road on Tuesday, July 31, before the Tudors host MK Dons on Thursday, August 2.

Hemel kick-off their pre-season friendlies with a trip to Newport Pagnell on Tuesday, July 10, before taking on Kings Langley four days later.

They will also play friendlies against Leverstock Green, Enfield 1893, Aylesbury, AFC Dunstable, Great Yarmouth, Chalfont St Peter, Cheshunt and Wealdstone, before the season gets under way on Saturday, August 18.
