Page strikes late to share the spoils

ANTHONY Page rescued a point for Berkhamsted with an injury-time equaliser at Wodson Park on Saturday.

The draw keeps Berkhamsted at the top of the MSSML Division One league table, one point ahead of Kings Langley with three games in hand.

Berko could have taken the lead early on, but a number of chances went begging and it was Wodson who broke the deadlock.

An under-hit back pass from Mark Welling was seized on by ex-Lilywhite Anthony Anstead and he held off a challenge before beating Ed Farmer with a shot to give Park the lead.

Berko pushed for an equaliser in the second half, but it looked as though they were going to be left frustrated.

That was until four minutes into injury time, when Page arrived to stab home at the back post and snatch the important point for Berko.

Berkhamsted manager Mick Vipond was relieved to have come away with something from the game. “Their keeper made a couple of excellent saves,” he said. “I thought this was going to be our second defeat so it was a valuable point.”

“We are top of the league so we are a target and everyone wants to beat us.”
