Berkhamsted climbed into the top-three of the MSSML Premier Division on Tuesday night courtesy of a thumping 6-2 wins at Oxhey Jets.

Mick Vipond made three changes to the back-four that played at Daventry with Ed Canham available again, Bekim Culaj making his first start of the season after injury and Dan Griggs returning in the right-back slot. James Towell also came in up front for the injured Connor Calcutt.

Culaj was soon into his stride as he curled home a free-kick to put Berko in front early on, but Jets hit back through former Berko youth player Ben Poulton.

However, the match was decided by a Josh Chamberlain hat-trick that came in a devastating six-minute spell before the interval.

First, the in-form striker rifled home from range to regain his side’s lead, before volleying in his second and slotting home his third to complete a second hat-trick in just eight days.

Jets cut the deficit shortly after half-time, but a red card soon followed and Berko took advantage to wrap the game up with goals from James Towell and Ashley Morrissey.

On Saturday Berko turn their attention to FA Carlsberg Vase action at home to United Counties League side Buckingham Town, 3pm k/o.

This is their last chance to reach Wembley this season. Jordon Frederick is suspended, but Calcutt is the only injury.

Next Wednesday the Comrades travel to AFC Dunstable for a vital match as they lie next to the Broadwater side in the table.

It is the first leg of the Suburban League Cup tonight when Berko travel to Ashford Town from Middlesex. Then on Saturday it is back to league action at Dunstable Town.

Berko’s U18 side, meanwhile, have two home games in seven days – facing Chesham United in the league tonight before a home FA Youth Cup tie with Ashford Town on Tuesday.
