The tension is building for Hemel Hempstead Town fans ahead of the Tudors’ massive FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay at Sutton United tonight.
The Tudors have the chance to reach the first round proper for the first time since 1938 but have to find a way past a Sutton side who are flying high in the Conference South.
Saturday’s tie at Vauxhall Road ended all-square at 3-3, with Hemel showing tremendous guts and character to fight back from 3-1 down in front of a bumper crowd of nearly 1,500 spectators.
Speaking yesterday, Hemel manager Dean Brennan insisted his side would be fully prepared for the task that they faced in the replay.
“It will be a really good game again on Tuesday and it’s a good test for us,” he said.
“We had to change our tactics on Saturday and we will do something similar on Tuesday.
“It’s a good test of the management team because we never really have to change our tactics but Sutton are a very good side and we have to respect that.”
The Tudor fans will certainly be in strong voice at the clash, with two supporters’ coaches having fully sold out for tonight’s trip.
United will be favourites to book their place in the next round – where the victors will travel to either Bradford PA or Kidderminster – but the in-form Tudors will certainly not be overawed by the occasion.
Brennan’s men are sitting pretty at the top of the Calor League Southern Premier Division and are currently enjoying an 11-game unbeaten league run.
Strike pairing Lewis Toomey and Ben Mackey have both been in fine form in front of goal so far this season, and the duo were both on target against Sutton on Saturday.
