Hard-working Tring toil for little reward

TRING Athletic recorded a draw and a defeat in their two pre-season friendlies this week.

First up, Julian Robinson’s men went down 2-1 at Kings Langley, before being held to a 2-2 draw by Leighton.

Tring started the game slowly against Kings Langley, but will feel that they did enough in the last 60 minutes to earn a victory.

Kings took a first half lead, but Athletic struck back through Andy Humphreys.

However, Tring were undone by an 86th minute penalty as Matt Jarvis was harshly judged to have handled the ball in the area, and the spot-kick was dispatched to hand Kings the win.

And Tring will also count themselves unlucky not to have won the match against Laighton, having taken the lead twice, only to be pegged back late into stoppage time.

Tring went ahead after 25 minutes as Darren Franklin set up Andy Humphreys to tap home, but Leighton restored parity courtesy of Jack Copson.

Athletic went back in front thanks to a Dave Whicker spot-kick after a foul on Humphreys, but with 90 minutes up, Leighton equalised to snatch the draw in dramatic fashion.
