BERKHAMSTED dug deep to secure a 2-1 win at Bedford Town Reserves on Saturday to maintain their eight-point lead at the top of MSSML Division One.
Despite having a number of key players unavailable, Berko ground out the win thanks to goals from Anthony Page and Lawrence Bunker.
After an entertaining start to the game, Page put Berko in front as he headed home Matt Wardle’s cross.
Bedford, though, hit back five minutes later to send the teams in level at half-time.
There were chances at either end after the interval, but Bunker won the game for Berko as he exquisitely curled home a free-kick to earn the three points for Mick Vipond’s side.
Comrades manager Vipond said: “We were a little bit light but it was a good game, a tight game.
“Sometimes grinding out the win is more important than playing free-flowing football.”
Despite his side’s commanding lead at the top of the table, Vipond is taking nothing for granted.
“It’s not nailed on yet what we are going to achieve but every team in the league would like to swap places with us,” he said.
