BerkoAstro and Berkhamsted Raiders Community Football Club are combining to launch a new form of the beautiful game for players who are no longer able to manage a full-speed match.
Walking football uses the same rules as normal small-sided football, with one exception – there is no running or sprinting, just walking.
Aimed at players who are recovering from injury, retired players, or those who just want to improve their skills and fitness at a slower pace, the walking football sessions will include basic fitness training, skills tuition and a short game.
Berkhamsted Raiders chairman Keith Pollard said: “In 2012 Berkhamsted Raiders was awarded the FA Eastern Region Community Club of the Year and we already provide playing opportunities for around 750 local children.
“Now we want to open our amazing facility at BerkoAstro to different parts of the community.
“Walking football is a brilliant way to keep in touch with the world’s most popular game, even if you’re no longer in the full flush of youth and not able to run around like a 10-year-old!”
The cost of walking football will be £4 per session, and these will be held on the BerkoAstro pitches on Tuesdays from 8pm to 9pm from May 7 onwards.
For those who wish to try the sport out first, there will be free taster sessions on Tuesday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 23.
