BERKHAMSTED gave a good account of themselves in their friendly on Tuesday night against a full strength Chesham United side who play two divisions above them.

The home side took the lead in the second minute when teenage striker Connor Calcutt struck the bar with a header and then netted the rebound.

Chesham levelled matters after 10 minutes when a rash challenge from Steve Ashby conceded a penalty, with former Broadwater favourite Michael Chennells netting from the spot.

United got their noeses in front from a close range header by ex-Fulham striker Barry Hayles, before Calcutt thought he had levelled the scores only to see his effort disallowed for an offside flag.

A flurry of substitutions followed - including the introduction of Berko’s Aaron Usmani following a long injury lay-off - but Chesham finally made sure of the win two minutes from time when Hayles struck again.

Berko are at home to Ware on Saturday, kick off 3pm, in their final home pre-season friendly.
