Codicote 1-1 Kings Langley

Kings Langley and Codicote played out a draw in an intriguing clash between two of the top five teams in MSSML Division One.

Codicote took the lead after 80 minutes, but Kings fought back with two minutes remaining to rescue a point through Nathan Pooley’s long range effort.

In a cat-and-mouse game, the majority of Kings’ neat approach work was thwarted by home skipper James Taylor, while Codicote threatened on the wings but were well contained down the middle.

Codicote’s John Chittendo had a clear chance on 15 minutes, but hit the post, while Kings’ best opening of the first half was a Liam James header which flew over the bar.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, and as the game entered the last 15 minutes, one goal looked increasingly likely to settle it.

Pooley’s volley was well-saved, but the pendulum swung in Codicote’s favour as Kane Dougherty took advantage of a defensive blunder to chip home.

But this Kings side is a resilient one, and with just two minutes left, a bouncing ball in the centre circle fell to Nathan Pooley, who looked up and hit a shot over the keeper to salvage a draw.
