BERKHAMSTED Raiders Community Football Club has received a £50,000 charitable donation.
Former Berkhamsted Raiders chairman Paul Beard - who sadly passed away suddenly two years ago - was the driving force behind the creation of the BerkoAstro pitches at Ashlyns School.
And the donation, from a Berkhamsted family trust, has been made to Raiders to continue the work which the former chairman started during his time with the club.
The club has been informed that they can use the donation as they wish, and there are no restrictions as to how they spend it.
The Raiders Committee will discuss the best uses for the donation and are considering ideas such as the creation of additional grass pitches for use in 11-a-side football matches, and the extension of the already impressive facilities at the 3G pitch at Ashlyns.
Phase Two of the development of the Paul Beard Centre is also an option for use of the funding.
This will involve the creation of changing and referee facilities, toilets, refreshment facilities and a training room.
During this process there will also be a regeneration of the outbuildings adjacent to the 3G pitch.
The cost of the planned work looks set to be in the region of £200,000 to £250,000 and the club is seeking grants from various sources to help with the funding.
