FOOTBALL: Berkhamsted finished off their pre-season friendly programme with a comfortable 4-1 win over Hoddesdon Town.
Steve Hawes, Matt Wardle, Aaron Usmani and Lawrence Bunker were on target for the Comrades, while Jeremy Lynch found the net for Hoddesdon.
Wardle put in a fine display for Berko, and created the first goal of the night by setting up Hawes after a jinking run.
Another fine dribble from Wardle led to Berko’s second, with the Comrades man firing a low shot past Hoddesdon keeper Lee Bullock.
Lynch pulled a goal back for Hoddesdon early in the second half, but Usmani restored the two-goal advantage a few minutes later.
And Berko wrapped up the win thanks to Bunker’s finish after another impressive run from Wardle.
The victory will give Mick Vipond’s side plenty of encouragement going into their SSML Premier Division opener against London Tigers tomorrow (Saturday).
Vipond expects to be at full strength apart from Lewis Rodrigoe and Tony Burnett who are unavailable, and the club are hoping for a good crowd at Broadwater for their first ever Premier Division match.
This season, Berko are offering half-price admission to league games for adult season ticket holders of professional clubs.
On Tuesday night, the Comrades visit Tring Athletic for a local derby in the league.
