Berkhamsted got their revenge for a 4-0 thrashing at Tring Athletic just after Christmas as they triumphed by the same scoreline in Saturday’s Dacorum derby clash at Broadwater.

Athletic should have opened the scoring in the ninth minute but Comrades keeper Carl Tasker pulled off two great saves to keep out headers from Ryan Sturges and then Kieran Turner.

A minute later some sloppy play gifted Berko an opportunity which Josh Chamberlain duly accepted to open the scoring for the hosts.

Despite this early setback Athletic looked dangerous on the break with Turner firing wide from a tight angle and Taylor Collins seeing a shot blocked.

The home were also creating chances, with Alex Campana firing a well hit shot from range straight at keeper Jack Hopwood before captain James Baldry headed a free-kick over.

Athletic had another golden opportunity in the 27th minute when Lee Stobbs shot wide of the near post when well placed, but three minutes later Berko again caught Tring out defensively when a routine cross was headed across goal to an unmarked Chamberlain who accepted his second gift of the day.

Facing an uphill battle, Athletic needed to work their way back into the game but instead fell further behind seven minutes into the second half when another defensive mistake lead to an own goal.

The visitors made some changes and tried to get something from the game but it was just not happening for them.

Subs Jay Caines and Chris Stapleton went the closest but last word went to the home side who scored a fourth through Frankie Jowle eight minutes from time to wrap up a convincing win.
