TWO Berkhamsted Raiders youngsters have been snapped up by top football teams and will play for elite academies next season.
Alex Lankshear will be hoping to make his mark at Arsenal, while Hornets fan Harry McHugh – son of Raiders’ head coach Steve McHugh – has signed for the Watford FC Academy.
The two boys, both eight, had been part of the Berkhamsted Raiders U8 Reds, but will no longer be able to play for the club.
Midfielder Alex’s father Jim said: “Alex is absolutely thrilled at the prospect of playing Academy football for Arsenal.
“He has had a fantastic year at Raiders and has enjoyed every single minute of it.”
Talented Harry McHugh, who attends Galley Hill School in Hemel Hempstead, has played for Berkhamsted Raiders since the age of five and, despite interest from several clubs, has elected to join the club he supports.
“We’re incredibly proud that Harry has chosen to join Watford’s Academy,” said father Steve.
“He’s really going to miss playing with his friends at Raiders but we’re really excited about the next phase of his footballing adventure.”
