Berkhamsted 3 Buckingham Town 2
Berkhamsted booked their place in the first round proper of the FA Vase after edging past Buckingham Town in a topsy turvy encounter at Broadwater.
Buckingham twice fought back from a goal behind to level the scores, but Berko plugged away resiliently to get the job done.
Connor Calcutt put Berko ahead from the penalty spot in the seventh minute after the referee spotted a push on Dale Sears.
But the visitors had signed Dominic Lawless from Calor Premier side Bedford Town just in time for the tie and he levelled the scores with a fine 20-yard strike midway through the first half.
Berko responded well, though, and James Towell regained the Comrades’ lead before the interval when he cut inside to place a shot just inside the post.
Again Buckingham hit back and Dan Marsala robbed Lewis Rodrigoe and restored parity with a shot from a tight angle.
They were only level for a minute, though, as Calcutt’s fierce shot was spilled, allowing Dan Griggs to tuck home the loose ball to win the game.
“We didn’t play particularly well but we got through it,” said Berko boss Mick Vipond.
“Some pros play their whole career and don’t get the chance to play at Wembley so the FA Vase is a massive opportunity for players at our level.”
