Berko crawl to top spot with good win

BERKHAMSTED recorded a solid 3-0 win over Crawley Green to climb to the top of MSSML Division One.

Goals from Matty Wardle, Tony Burnett and new signing Courtney Francis were enough to seal the crucial win for Mick Vipond’s side.

Berko had the better of the opening exchanges, with Aaron Usmani, Burnett and Anthony Page all coming close to finding the net, but it was Wardle who broke the deadlock after 32 minutes with a header from an Adam Mead corner.

The Comrades were forced into a change shortly after, with Mark Welling replacing the injured Usmani, and the substitute made an immediate impact. He played a fine cross in from the right, and Burnett was on hand to head home.

And the win was sealed in scrappy fashion as Francis bundled home a Paul Leslie cross - although there is debate as to whether the ball had already crossed the line.
