Tring Athletic suffered a disappointing defeat at Hertford in what was the hosts’ first home league game since mid-December.

Hertford struck just before half-time to take a 1-0 lead into the break, and the hosts made sure of the win with a second goal four minutes after the interval.

The first real chance of the game fell to Tring’s Reon Thomas, but his effort went wide of the post, and Hertford began to press as the half went on.

Mark Summers shot wide for the home team and Ollie Butler was forced into an excellent block, but Hertford finally found the breakthrough when Karden Campbell headed home powerfully for a 1-0 lead.

And the hosts started the second half as they had finished the first, with Mark Summers hitting the post before Lewis Donovan headed home to put his side 2-0 ahead.

Tring looked for a response and Jack Sunderland saw two efforts well-saved before Kay Brown’s shot hit the bar.

As Tring pushed forward they were leaving themselves open but, with no further goals Hertford comfortably saw out the game to take the three points.
