Watford Ladies 1-0 Liverpool Ladies

Watford Ladies got off to a winning start in Berkhamsted as they saw off Women’s Super League side Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at Broadwater

After an even start, Watford ladies sprung the offside trap and Jo Wilson saw her effort cleared off the line.

Soon afterwards, the Golden Girls broke the deadlock as Sarah Wilshire put a teasing ball across the box, which was struck past her own keeper by Liverpool’s Sam Chapell.

With Watford in the ascendency, Shelby Hills floated a superb free kick into the box that narrowly avoided Wiltshire.

Liverpool began to show their quality, however, and Emily Glenik crept in behind the Watford defence to head an effort on goal that Hornets keeper Lauren Davey did well to hold on to.

In a frantic few minutes, Wilson nearly made it two for the home side as she lobbed the keeper only to see her effort drift just over the bar, before Irene Martin Garcia hit the woodwork as Watford stepped up the pressure at the end of the half.

Liverpool made changes in the second half and looked to turn the match in their favour, but Watford held on to take the win against their Premier League opponents.
