Ex-F1 ace revs up for 100km Silverstone race

One of Hemel Hempstead's most famous exports will take on 1000km of racing at Silverstone.

Former F1 racer Anthony Davidson will drive for Peugeot Total in the first round of the inaugural Intercontinental Le Mans Cup this weekend at the UK's most prestigious racing circuit.

"Silverstone is where I first got to drive a racing car, and I've taken a number of wins there in different categories," said Davidson, whose family still live in Woodhall Farm.

"I can't wait to drive the Peugeot here, and it would be great to win in front of a home crowd!"

Davidson, who counts Honda and Super Aguri as former F1 employers, will be one of two drivers to take to the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP diesel car, which can hit speeds of up to 230mph.

It is the same car Davidson drove so skillfully in the team's ultimately unsuccessful Le Mans race back in June.

The three-day European leg at Silverstone will be followed by races in Georgia, USA and Zhuhai in China in early October and November respectively.

Davidson, who is an F1 co-commentator for BBC Five Live, was test driver for former karting rival Jenson Button last season.
