Davidson is Le Man for the job for Toyota

MOTORSPORT: Anthony Davidson has joined Toyota after Peugeot’s decision to close their endurance racing car programme, writes Peter Brazier.

Hemel driver Davidson was part of the winning Peugeot team at the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and was looking forward to this year’s championship.

However, Peugeot have decided to use their resources to promote a series of road cars and enhance their global presence.

Fortunately for Davidson, Toyota Racing will be running a second car at this year’s Le Mans 24 hour race in June and his drive has been confirmed alongside Hiroaki Ishiura and Sebastien Buemi in the second Toyota TS030 Hybrid.

The number 8 car will run in addition to the number 7, which will participate full time in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Davidson said: “I’m really happy to be part of the Toyota Racing team, and delighted to be returning to Le Mans this year.

“Competing at the Le Mans 24 hours is always exciting, but to be joining a team like Toyota Racing and to be competing with a hybrid powertrain make this particularly special.

“I’ve heard a lot about the TS030 Hybrid and the technology behind it, and I’m looking forward to experiencing hybrid power for the first time in my career.

“This is a learning year for the team but I believe Toyota Racing has potential, and I hope we can prove that at Le Mans.”

Davidson has also joined Sky Sports for practice commentary and race analysis for the 2012 F1 season.
