WE are pleased to announce that nominations are now being taken for this year’s Dacorum Sports Awards.
The Gazette and Sportspace, Dacorum Sports Trust, are once again working in partnership to sponsor the awards, which recognise sporting talent in Dacorum.
As well as honouring sporting individuals, teams and clubs that actively participate in sport, it is also an excellent opportunity to reward those who work tirelessly behind the scenes in coaching, administrative or official roles.
Rebecca Dukes, Sportspace sports development manager said: “We have a huge amount of sporting talent locally and the awards enable us to acknowledge and highlight this.
“As an organisation our ethos is that sport and recreation should be available to the whole community, whatever your age or level of ability.
“By raising the profile of the awards we hope to improve awareness of the excellent local sporting opportunities and achievements, and encourage more people to get involved.”
The Sportspace sports development team are behind the organisation of the Dacorum Sports Awards but they need local people to get involved to make the awards a success.
Rebecca added: “Any award ceremony is only as good as the quality of nominations so we are calling on all local clubs, teams and individuals to support the event and send their nominations in!”
In total, there are ten award categories and these are: Sports Person of the Year, Club of the Year, Contribution to Disability Sport, Team of the Year, Community Coach of the Year, The Maureen Flint Rising Star Award, Junior Coach (Under-21) of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Dacorum Sport Networks Lifetime Achievement Awards, and The Audrey Dell Award for special sporting achievement.
The deadline for nominations is Monday, May 30 and the awards presentation night will be held at Sportspace Berkhamsted on Friday, July 1.
Nomination forms are available from the Sportspace website, www.sportspace.co.uk
They are also available at all Sportspace receptions or from Rebecca at email@example.com.
“A special sporting guest will be attending the event to present the awards – watch this space to find out more!” said Rebecca.

Meanwhile, Sportspace staff have been working hard to get the outdoor pool clean and ready for the summer months.
Rebecca said: “Teams at the sports centre in Hemel Hempstead have been scrubbing and painting to ensure the pool was open for the Easter break.”
