Gazette Cup first round draw

THE wait is over for cricket clubs in and around Dacorum as the first round draw for the Adex-sponsored Gazette Cup and Peter Wright Trophy competitions can finally be revealed.

The draw took place on Friday, here at the Gazette, and threw up a number of tasty-looking fixtures.

This year, 13 clubs entered the Gazette Cup, meaning the first round consists of five matches and three byes.

Abbots Langley, Northchurch and Little Gaddesden were the three lucky teams randomly selected to be given byes, while the rest of the draw is as follows:

Levy Green v Met Police Bushey

Hemel Town v Itehaad

Berkhamsted v Ivinghoe & Pitstone

Langleybury v Tring Park

Kings Langley v Boxmoor

These 20/20 matches must be played by Friday, May 25, with teams deciding between them on a suitable date. The winners will then progress to the quarter-finals.

The final is scheduled to take place at Hemel Town CC on Friday, July 13.

Langleybury will be hoping to make the most of home advantage in their quest to see off cup holders Tring Park, while Hemel Town face an unknown element in Gazette Cup new boys Itehaad.

The U15 Peter Wright Trophy, meanwhile, kicks straight into action at the semi-final stage.

A repeat of last year’s final could be on the cards, with Abbots Langley and Kings Langley picked in different sides of the draw.

It will be no easy feat for either team to reach the final, however, with Hemel Town ready to take on Abbots, and Tring Park standing in the way of reigning champions Kings.

The final will take place at Kings Langley CC on Thursday, June 28.
