Hemel Hempstead Camelot moved up to second spot in the London NW2 league after a scrappy win away at London Nigerians.

Hemel were feeling in confident mood on the back of their two previous victoriess, but found themselves behind within 5 minutes of the kick-off.

This seemed to galvanize Hemel and they started to find some continuity in their play. A neat catch and drive forced the home team to try and collapse the drive and Hemel were awarded a penalty try to level the scores after 15 minutes.

Nigerians regained the lead, but Camelot hit back again as Connor Herlihy profited from a well-worked line-out to cut the hosts’ lead to 14-12 at half-time.

Two quick tries at the second half gave Nigerians a 24-12 lead, and things went from bad to worse for Hemel as a man was sin-binned.

That only seemed to spurr the visitors on, howeverm and man of the match Ryan Doyle crossed the line to reduce the arrears to 24-15.

Almost immediately after the restart, Nick Merritt crossed in the corner to bring the margin of difference to just two points, before a penalty gave Hemel the lead for the first time at 25-24.

A further three tries from George Adams, Aled Gamble and Flannery saw Hemel pick up winning bonus points and finish the game 24-37 victors.

Next up for Hemel is a home clash with UCS Old Boys on the Saturday, November 17.
