Two teams from Boxmoor Cricket Club’s junior section enjoyed a promising finish to their season when they placed third in their respective county finals.
On a scorching day both teams played two matches – firstly a semi-final, followed by a third and fourth place play-off.
The U10 team played at Rickmansworth when they were beaten in the semi-final by the hosts by 64 runs.
However, they fought hard in the play-off and narrowly beat Hitchin by just eight runs to finish third overall.
The U12s, meanwhile, travelled to Stevenage for the U12 B County Finals Day.
They were drawn against Old Albanians in the semi-final, where they scored 106-5 in 20 overs, but OAs responded with 107-3 and eventually went on to win the final in the afternoon.
However, the Boxmoor youngsters had a fantastic second game against Knebworth Park in the afternoon.
Knebworth batted first and were all out for 93, so Boxmoor knew what they had to do. They mopped up with a fantastic innings of 94-4, meaning that they too finished third overall in their competition.
It was an outstanding effort from the U12s who, only last year, had gone an entire season without winning a match.
The result is testament to the hard work of the coaches in the Boxmoor Cricket Club junior section, which was only set up five seasons ago.
