Yobs jailed for a year for attack on teenager
TWO drunken yobs who attacked and robbed a 15-year-old boy, taking his mobile phone in an alleyway near LeisureWorld in Hemel Hempstead, have been sentenced to a year behind bars.
Ross Edmonds, 20, and Ben Connolly, 18, asked the teenager: “Have you got any fags?”
When he said he did not, Edmonds told him to stand up and punched him to the left side of his face.
He went to the ground where he was then kicked by Connolly, St Albans Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Andrea Scott-Lynch said they took a Nokia mobile phone from the boy.
The robbery, which happened just before 11pm close to the Jarman Park complex, was witnessed by two 13-year-old girls who had been sitting in the alleyway with the victim.
The boy was taken to hospital for treatment for concussion and injuries to his jaw, the left side of his face and ear.
Since the attack he does not like going out alone, even in daylight, said the prosecutor.
Connelly, who was drunk having been celebrating his 18th birthday, was recognised by one of the girls and was arrested later in Marlowes, Hemel Hempstead.
He was searched by police and a Nokia phone battery was found on him.
Later the rest of the phone was recovered from the police car that Connelly was picked up in.
When questioned he said he had been given the battery by a friend at LeisureWorld.
Edmonds was arrested a few weeks later, on May 17. Both were picked out as the two responsible for the robbery at a video identification parade.
Edmonds, of Sawyers Way, Hemel Hempstead, and Connolly, of Crabtree Lane, Hemel Hempstead, pleaded guilty to robbing the boy on April 29 this year.
Defence barrister Jessica Sobey, defending them both, said: “They were extremely drunk and are ashamed of what took place. They have hazy recollection of what went on.”
She said unemployed Connolly was due to be a father in the next two months, while Edmonds has a job working five days a week from 6am to 6pm.
On Tuesday, Judge John Plumstead sentenced them to 12 months’ custody less 25 days for the 49 days they have been electronically curfewed.
He told the two defendants: “Your victim was vulnerable. It was two against one.
“You did it in front of two 13-year-old girls.
“Both of you had had too much to drink and have shown unforgivable behaviour. “

Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 10:22 PMThey will only serve a matter of months. When a sentence is given they should serve that sentence. None of this time off for good behaviour, should add time on for bad behaviour. They will be free in no time to do the same thing again. Wonder if this was their first offence

Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 08:43 PMAs for the two thugs, lock'em up and throw away the keys. Totally agree; they won't learn and never will. Our justice system is too soft for it to make an impression on them.
