A woman was forced to fight off a man who tried to kiss her and drag her into a bush in Hemel Hempstead town centre yesterday afternoon.

The 20-year-old, who comes from St Albans, was walking along Waterhouse Street in the direction of Combe Street at around 1.15pm, when a man of Asian appearance tried to talk to her before allegedly grabbing her arm and attempting the sexual assault.

The young woman managed to fight him off before running in the direction of Market Square.

The man is described as being in his mid-to-late 20s, between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 7ins, with black, spiky hair and a thin beard that went along his jaw and chin. He was wearing a red T-shirt and beige trousers.

Investigator Kevin Deudon, from the town’s local crime unit, said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim but fortunately she was not hurt as a result.

“I would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident or who recognises the description of the suspect.”

Call police on 101 with information.
