A good cause that helps the elderly is asking people to walk across hot coals for them.

Age UK Dacorum wants brave fundraisers to hot foot it across 12ft of coals to raise money for the charity, which provides clubs, DIY services, befriending, information and support to more than 6,000 older people every year.

The event is taking place at Hemel Hempstead’s Riverside Shopping Centre next Thursday, October 18, and anyone taking part is being asked to raise a minimum of £100.

Age UK Dacorum hopes to rake in £5,000 through the event, which is being run by Time 4 Change.

This money could run the charity’s telephone befriending service for eight months, cover the costs for a year of visiting older people in hospital to give them company and help them find their feet when they are discharged or cover the running costs of a handyperson’s van for a year – a scheme that is under threat due to funding cutbacks.
