A Tring School pupil scooped top prize in a restaurant company’s design a dish competition.
Year 7 student Madeleine Deane, 11, won a certificate for her Spanish-style butterbean and chorizo risotto in the Oakman Inns’ summer competition.
The winning dish will soon be available to buy on the children’s menu in all seven of the company’s pubs and restaurants. The criteria was a child-friendly dish made with tasty, seasonal ingredients.
A spokesperson for Oakman Inns – which owns The Akeman in Tring – said: “The chefs were really impressed not only with the dish, but also the degree of preparation Maddie had done – specifically the ingredients and cooking method.”
Madeleine, who lives in Tring, said: “I was surprised. I thought the dish would be too simple to win. I wanted to include lots of ingredients that children would like and make it healthy, too.”
Headteacher Sue Collings said: “I’m always delighted to hear of students’ achievements within the community and share in celebrating their success.”
