Will developers turn town into just a ‘posh Hemel’?

TOWNSPEOPLE fear that Berkhamsted will be transformed into a “posh Hemel” unless developers are stopped.

They say repeated planning applications for homes – despite mass opposition from householders, town and borough councils – show the determination of the property firms.

Developers have been trying to push through a homes plan for The Pines in North Road for four years. Proposals for houses at The Grey House in Kitsbury Road are being examined now by the planning inspectorate.

Grahame Partridge, chairman of Save Your Berkhamsted Residents Association, said: “The character of the town has been created over hundreds of years.

“It could be destroyed in a decade or so if inappropriate development is given the go-ahead.”
