Whipsnade Zoo’s weigh-in is a mammoth task for keepers

It was time for all creatures great and small to step on the scales for the annual weigh-in at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo yesterday.

Zookeepers had a heavy weight on their shoulders as they used a variety of techniques, from weighing boards for elephants and scales for lemurs, to get the vital statistics on each of the zoo’s 2,500 animals.

The measurements which were recorded during the annual ‘stock take’ operation will be shared with zoos across the world in order to compare information on thousands of endangered species.
