A legitimate Sportspace user has been successful in her appeal against a fine of up to £150 but it is unclear whether this will pave the way for other gym goers.
The woman, who does not wish to be named, visits the Hemel Hempstead leisure centre twice a week for physiotherapy.
But she did not realise that she needed to input her car’s registration number every time and believed that the computer system would keep a record of her details after she had keyed it in once.
She has been told by Civil Enforcement Ltd – the firm brought in to stop commuters and shoppers clogging up spaces – that her fine has been cancelled. She said: “I hope it might help other readers. If one can get it cancelled then they must be able to as well.”
So far the parking firm has been unable to tell the Gazette what this means for other gym users who fell foul of the controversial system.
