POLICE will welcome 28 five- and six-year-olds to their station for their last look around it on Wednesday.

They’ll be given a tour by PCSOs Emma Lennox and Thomas Montgomery from the Berkhamsted and Tring neighbourhood teams of Herts police.

The youngsters from St Mary’s C of E First School in New Road, Northchurch, have taken part in the tour of the Berkhamsted base several times before.

School headteacher Sarah Jones said: “It is a lovely day and last year they thoroughly enjoyed it.

“They did not want to leave the police station – but this will be their last visit there, because it’s closing this year.”

During the trip last year, they had their finger prints taken, saw the inside of some old custody cells and looked around some police cars.

Berkhamsted sergeant Peter Huffer said: “The message we are trying to get across is that the policeman is your friend.”

The children will also go around Berkhamsted Castle on Wednesday to learn about the town’s history.

Sgt Huffer said if other schools in the area would like to visit, or for police to visit them, “do not hesitate” to get in touch.

Phone the safer neighbourhood team on 0845 33 00 222.
