THE Hemel Hempstead parliamentary constituency could get a new name in the future if plans to change the voting boundaries gets the go-ahead.

The constituency could become Hemel Hempstead and South West Bedfordshire if, as proposed by the Boundary Commission, parts of south Beds including Kensworth are included in the Hemel Hempstead seat currently held by MP Mike Penning.

But many residents in Kensworth have expressed their dismay over the changes, and the MP for South West Beds Andrew Selous has spoken out over the changes, saying that it is nonsensical for Kensworth to become part of Dacorum, where Hemel Hempstead would be the main focus.

He said: “Kensworth is miles away from Hemel Hempstead. I think communities are being forgotten.”

Mr Penning has written to the Boundary Commission in support of the change, although he laments the loss of the Ashridge area to fellow conservative MP David Gauke.

He said: “I always look after my constituents, including those in the villages such as Markyate and Flamstead.”
