Canoes, inflatables and men in fancy dress will all be passing along the Grand Union Canal this weekend.

A team of charity runners are set to take to the water for a wacky race from Berkhamsted to Hemel Hempstead.

The Hemel 100 Milers, a group of 11 men including serving and former members of the armed forces, are set to run 100 miles this November for the Royal British Legion.

But on Saturday, the team will meet at the Boat Pub in Berkhamsted at 1pm to race along the canal in a range of craft and in fancy dress to help drum up some of their target sponsorship figure of £20,000.

They aim to end up at the Fishery Inn in Boxmoor.

The 100 Milers will run from the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to the cenotaph outside St John’s Church in Boxmoor over four days.

So far they have managed to raise more than £5,000, and are currently regularly running distances of 12 miles to prepare.
