War badges of honour for hard graft women
Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning presented Doreen Halford, Betty Blocki and Vera Hone with veteran badges.
Ladies who rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in when men went to war have been recognised.
Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning presented Women’s Land Army and Women’s Timber Corps badges to three Dacorum women.
Doreen Halford worked in the dairy and Betty Blocki slogged it out in the fields with the Women’s Land Army, while Vera Hone made railway sleepers and pit props under the Women’s Timber Corps.
Mr Penning said: “Many of these ladies were sent a long way from home to work in a very unfamiliar environment but did it unflinchingly in support of the war effort. Quite simply, we owe them a great deal.”
