Two 26-year-olds from Berkhamsted are aiming to walk 62 miles of the Great Wall of China to raise money in memory of Kathleen Holmes, below right.
Kathleen, from Lancashire, died of Alzeihmer’s disease in March after battling the condition for more than seven years.
It was granddaughter Sarah-Jane, of Shrublands Road, Berkhamsted, who decided to trek in her memory – and she recruited partner Phil Davies to do it with her.
They are trying to raise £6,200 for the Alzheimer’s Society – and have so far got to 70 per cent of that target.
Sarah-Jane, pictured right with Phil said: “It has been an eye-opening and upsetting experience watching how the disease affects someone who you love.
“I wanted to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society so that we can help them to find a cure and hopefully stop this happening to others in the future.”
The couple’s six-day trek will begin on Saturday, October 19.
