Chocolate man Willie launches new dessert range in Berkhamsted

Celebrity chocolate-maker Willie Harcourt-Cooze visited Waitrose Berkhamsted to launch his new range of chilled desserts.

Best known for his Channel 4 documentary Willie’s Wonky Chocolate Factory, the entrepreneur set up his own brand of chocolate products, Willie’s Cacao, after embarking on a “chocolate odyssey” in Venezuela.

His bean-to-bar philosophy means the puddings are made with real chocolate, plus unusual flavours such as Somerset cider brandy and Amarena cherries.

Willie said: “We are the UK’s only bean-to-bar chocolate manufacturer. I have come down to Berkhamsted, one of only 27 Waitrose stores in the country to sell the desserts, to do a tasting of my newly-launched range.

“They are made with all the amazing ingredients I have come across over the years. Lots of chocolate around today is very sugary and with lots of fats, so I saw a gap in the market to make real chocolate. The desserts are really good quality with all natural ingredients.”

Priced at £3.79 each, the desserts are evocatively named Paradise Found, Molten Dreams, and Heaven’s Gate, each box containing two to three pots.

Rebecca Choules of Tring, who sampled the range, said: “They taste really good, and I like a little bit of alcohol in my chocolate. I will be buying them in the future as they are so delicious.”

Waitrose customer Tim tasted Paradise Found, a sponge base soaked in cider brandy topped with chocolate ganache and amarena cherries. He said: “This is really delicious. It is very good, and has a nice fruity taste to the chocolate.”

Find your coupon in this week’s edition of the Gazette (February 27) to claim a free bar of Willie’s Cacao single-estate chocolate when you buy one of the new desserts from Waitrose in Berkhamsted.
