A 44-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to put people in fear and going equipped, after an early hours break-in at a garage in the town.
The culprit, on a mobility scooter, was disturbed as he tried to force entry to the garage – in Hammer Lane, Adeyfield, at around 12.05am on Saturday morning – and fled the scene on the vehicle.
Police located Simon Whittle, of Longlands, after the incident and he appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on Monday before being released on court bail.
