UKIP ‘surprised’ at town’s support ahead of election

UKIP is claiming Hemel Hempstead as a stronghold after campaigning in the town centre for tomorrow’s election for the post of police commissioner for Herts.
Marion Mason, who is standing for UKIP, was out pressing the flesh on Saturday ahead of the poll to decide who will hold the county force to account.
UKIP spokesman Noel Swinford said: “We picked up quite a few new members. We were surprised at the reception we had. I think we’ll do well, especially in Hemel Hempstead.”
Meanwhile, MEP Vicky Ford joined Conservative candidate David Lloyd in St Albans last week to support his campaign.
Sherma Batson is the Labour candidate and Chris Townsend is standing for the Liberal Democrats.
