Two years and 1,000 jobs later...
New figures show unemployment remains more than 70 per cent higher than two years ago, despite year-on-year improvements.
There are 2,324 people out of work in Dacorum, compared to 1,331 in the same period in 2008 – an increase of 74.6 per cent.
In Three Rivers, which includes Kings Langley and Bedmond, there are 1,104 unemployed residents – a staggering 125.8 per cent increase on 2008's figure of 489.
For Hertfordshire overall, the number has soared from 8,663 to 17,445, or 101.4 per cent, in two years.
It is, however, an improvement on last year, when 19,631 people were job hunting in the county.
There are also more people working in Dacorum and Three Rivers than in 2009, when the districts had 2,853 and 1,274 unemployed residents
respectively.
The latest statistics, based on the number of Jobseekers Allowance claimants in July, also saw a countywide decrease compared to June.
Business leaders have credited the drop in unemployment to a surge in people who are seeking full-time work settling for part-time positions.
