A devoted dad and two trusty friends conquered three famous mountains within 24 hours to raise £3,500 for Meningitis UK after he lost his daughter to the deadly disease.

Milly Loczy died aged four on May 11, 2010, less than 24 hours after noticing the first symptoms of the illness.

It left her parents Zoltan, 42, and Nicci, 35, of Berkhamsted, devastated. Their other daughter Anya Ella, now 22 months old, and son Buddy, 10 months, will never meet their older sister.

In her memory, Zoltan, nicknamed Zolly, and friends Neil Lewis, of Luton, and Mark Swatman, also of Berkhamsted, did The Big Trek 24hr Three Peaks.

The trekking trio climbed 1344-metre Ben Nevis in Scotland, 978-metre Scafell Pike in Cumbria, and 1,085-metre Mount Snowdon in Wales during the event on Saturday, August 18.

Zolly said: “The three of us had an enormous sense of achievement when we finally finished the three peaks.

“We were in a lot of pain afterwards, but it was all worth it to raise so much for the charity, which helped me and my family when we lost Milly.

“Nicci and I are supporting Meningitis UK as we are determined to help find a vaccine to eliminate this deadly disease, so no other parents have to go through what we faced.”

Zolly has raised around £40,000 for Meningitis UK in the last two years

He is already planning to cycle from London to Paris for Meningitis UK in 2013.
