THE Tringe is back and in this Olympic year Tring’s cracking comedy festival, from July 1 to 21, has a line-up which is solid gold.

Fringe stalwart and one of comedy’s elder statesmen Arthur Smith returns, along with Russell Kane and the mind-blowing sketch group Late Night Gimp Fight.

Simon Evans and Lucy Porter haven’t been in town for a while but this year they too are back to perform.

And for the first time the Tringe will welcome Jo Caulfield, Sean Hughes, Stewart Francis, Mark Little and Brendon Burns.

Founder and organiser of the Tringe Ben Moorhouse is looking forward to all the shows and while he finds it tricky to pick out highlights he does promise a barnstormer of a night with Brendon Burns and Phil Nichol on July 3.

There’s plenty going on for the youngsters as well with a fabulous selection of family shows scheduled for the first two weeks of the festival.

Little Howard, Horrible Histories and Horrible Science will wow the bigger kids, along with the acclaimed Canadian performer Jeff Achtem’s new show Swamp Juice.

Younger children will be entranced by Claytime and Pinocchio and the multi-media show Chalk Giants should not be missed.

Tringe 2012 will also see a repeat of the roving comedy night featuring four groups of comedians made up of professionals and trainees performing in four different pubs.

With so much going on you might want to think about taking advantage of the Tringe passport. Purchase one and you can see 17 shows for just £2.50 each.

Ben said: “When I put the feelers out across the comedy community for acts, I was inundated with several hundred requests.

“It’s been a real challenge to slim it down to the three week event. I sometimes feel as though I’ve created a monster.”
