HUNDREDS of people have taken part in a consultation on plans to introduce residents-only parking permits.
A formal consultation on the scheme was launched by Berkhamsted Town Council, which put it together, on Wednesday and Thursday last week.
Plans were displayed in The Court House, Church Lane, Berkhamsted, where Councillor Julie Laws and parking development manager Steven Barnes were on hand to answer questions.
On streets where it is introduced, householders will have to pay at least £25 per year for a permit to park within their ‘zone’.
Those in zone P would have 8am to 6pm residents-only parking, were the scheme to get public approval, and zone M householders would have it from 8am to 8pm.
The first would cover central and eastern Berkhamsted including streets Doctor’s Common Road and Charles Street, and the second the area around the train station.
But the scheme would not guarantee householders a place outside of their home – although they would be the only ones allowed to park within their communal zone.
