A 12-YEAR-OLD girl has been hit by a car a car on the road campaigners say could be a killer.

The Common has a speed limit of 50mph which slows to 30mph as drivers pass through Potten End.

But parish councillors complain that this is often ignored. They launched a public consultation on new safety measures – such as road humps – for the street earlier this year.

A girl was knocked off her bicycle while crossing The Common at its junction with Church Road on Saturday afternoon.

She was rushed to Watford General Hospital, but only received minor injuries and will be back at school in a few days time.

But headteacher Jane Senior has now called for a 20mph speed limit around Potten End First School, which sits on the junction of the two roads.

She said: “It is a nasty, dangerous junction and frequently there are people injured there.

“It is quite possible that someone will be killed.”
