A French-originated cafe is angling for a new customer base now that it’s expanded into the fish and chips market.
Cafe Roastino opened in Marlowes near the bus interchange in March last year, and – far from floundering – the firm is doing so well it has taken over the unit next door for its unique take on the Great British classic.
But, a world away from the typical pickled egg and curry sauce offerings, the Roastino Fish Bar boasts a veritable sea of choices from mussels Mariniere, grilled tuna loin and salmon supreme to squid rings and chilli mango prawns.
Head chef Anthony Canale is the son of Roastino owner Francois, who brought his business over form France. Anthony – a trained baker with experience working around the world, including in Harrods – said: “We put a lot of love and passion into what we do.
“In the old days of fish and chips there were no Pukka Pies or battered sausages – everyone is doing it now so why should we do the same thing?
“We are going far beyond the current market – it’s definitely something you won’t see elsewhere, probably anywhere in the United Kingdom.”
