Herts 10 k run in aid of the Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care 2012. Race winner Matthew Salt from Dacorum and Tring Athletic Club.

A Dacorum runner was the first over the line in the fundraising Herts 10k which saw thousands turn out.

Matthew Salt, from Dacorum and Tring Athletic Club, completed the run around Rothamsted Research Park in Harpenden in just under 33 minutes on Sunday.

There were more runners than ever before taking part in the annual event, which raises cash for Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care.

First to finish out of the women was Georgia Dench from Harpenden with an impressive time of 40 minutes and 40 seconds. She was also first across the line out of the women in 2011.

Director of fundraising and marketing at the hospice, Gillian Barnett, said: “We were absolutely delighted with the turnout for the Herts 10k.  Just under 3,000 people took part including elite runners, those for whom the distance was a challenge and those who ran dressed as babies or bananas.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere during the event and we would like to thank all the runners, their supporters and our team of volunteers whose help ensured the event ran smoothly.

“Thanks also go to Lawrence Levy whose company, Levy Associates, has been the force behind the Herts 10k since its inception and their incredible support, together with that of our other sponsors, make the whole event possible.

“We have already raised in the region of £85,000 from this event and with some sponsorship money still to come in, we are hopeful of exceeding £100,000 in total.  That amazing total will go a long way towards ensuring that we can carry on caring for an increasing number of patients throughout Herts and Bucks.”
