It has just been announced that the Boomtown Rats will be performing at Tring’s Chilfest music festival next year.

The band are most famous for number one single I Don’t Like Mondays, which stayed at the top of the charts for four weeks in 1979.

Frontman Bob Geldof later went on to organise the 1985 charity super-concert Live Aid with Ultravox singer, songwriter and guitarist Midge Ure, who performed at Chilfest this year.

The Boomtown Rats revelation came out on the music festival’s Facebook page at noon.

Organiser Steve Butcher said: “It is a hell of an act and I am quite excited.

“It will be interesting to see the reaction this gets on Facebook, as I do not think anybody was expecting that.”

Chilfest, which ran for two days this year, will run from Friday, July 4, to Sunday, July 6 in 2014.

The first two days will have a 1980s theme and an afternoon of pop will be held on the third day. The 2014 festival will return to the same venue at Pendley Meadow in Cow Lane.

Other acts so far confirmed for the event are:

- Heaven 17.

- Go West.

- Leee John from Imagination.

- Jason Donovan.

- Bad Manners.

- Toyah Willcox.

- Big Country.
