Two taxi drivers were temporarily banned from picking up customers after being caught breaching safety during spot checks.

Five of the drivers stopped out of a total of 17 were found by Dacorum Borough Council officials and Herts Police to be committing offences.

A total of 15 breaches were discovered, although the majority were minor.

Two drivers had their Dacorum plates removed – one for having two defective seatbelts and the other for not having wheelchair restraints. Their vehicles have since been re-inspected by officials and had their suspensions have been lifted.

Another two were given council defect notices ordering repairs to be carried out to minor bodywork damage and officers issued prohibitions for offences such as tinted windows and lighting breaches.
