Song-writing teen makes it into national contest

Waiting for Video...

A teenager who writes her own songs and plays the guitar has made it through to the finals of national music competition Open Mic UK.

Lucy Hodson, who lives with her family in Redbourn, started singing when she was just 18 months old.

“That is the first time we have got any video of her singing,” said mum Rosie.

“She was singing full Disney songs in tune at four.”

Lucy is also part of Hemel Hempstead performance group Gobstoppers and is playing one of the main roles in a stage show of Anything Goes this November.

Lucy will compete in the regional final of Open Mic UK at Watford on October 28. The national final is next year.

Also competing in the competition is 13-year-old Ellie Hopkins from Apsley, Hemel Hempstead,
