Dacorum Community Choir performed two concerts at the Riverside Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead on a glorious Saturday afternoon at the end of August.

The busy shopping area proved an ideal location for the choir led by musical director Rufus Frowde.

A selection of songs from the choir’s broad repertoire brought the shoppers to a halt giving an opportunity for the public to hear the choir and to find out what is in store for music lovers in Dacorum in the near future.

At the end of September the choir, together with children from South Hill School and Dacorum Music School, will accompany professional singers and musicians in performing the opera Tobias And The Angel at Carey Baptist Church, Hemel Hempstead.

This opera, a contemporary work with music by Jonathan Dove and the libretto by David Lan, has been written for community choirs with professional musicians and singers in mind.

This performance is supported by grants from BBC Performing Arts Fund, the Co-operative Membership Community Fund and the Williams Church Music Trust with the performance licensed by arrangement with Edition Peters.

The three performances will take place on Friday, September 27 at 7pm and on Saturday, September 28 at 2.30pm and 7pm. Tickets are available from 07597 195814 and online at www.tobias-in-dacorum.co.uk, as well as from members of the cast.

In September a small group of members will visit Hemel Hempstead’s twin town of Neu Isenberg to make music music and to share the hospitality of new friends in Germany.
