Name of organisation: Dacorum and Tring Athletics Club

What are your main aims and objectives?

To develop skills for individuals in athletics, road running and cross country. We aim to create a welcoming, helpful, fun and energetic atmosphere for everyone.

Where do you meet and how often?

We train every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the track at Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead, throughout the year. In addition, in the winter we do indoor training at a school in Berkhamsted on Tuesdays. Our road running section train at Boxmoor. There is also training in Wendover Woods on Sunday mornings for the more hardy.

What sort of people are your members?

Male and female of all ages ranging from 10 to 70 years old who have an interest in all aspects of athletics – whether it be track and field, road running or cross country. Some members have competed at Olympic and International level.

If someone was considering membership, what would you say to them to convince them to sign up?

You get to train with fully qualified coaches, with a view to competing in the league matches and to represent their county. We also have a very good social side to the club.

Please give us an idea of your activities in the last six months, and what do you have lined up for the future?

Regular training twice a week, league matches throughout the summer for girls, boys, seniors and veterans. A club pentathlon is held in May, club championships in September leading to our presentation evening in October where medals and trophies are presented. Also some social events including a quiz evening and a trip to Crystal Palace.

What sort of costs are involved in membership?

Ranging from £15 per year for the U13s and up to £30 per year for seniors. We also have family membership, social membership and senior citizen rates. Training fees are £3.50 for training night reducing to £2 on becoming a member.

Are you part of a national organisation?

We are affiliated to UKA, England Athletics, Herts County AAAs, EYAL, women’s and men’s, juniors and veterans’ leagues. If we were not affiliated to these bodies we would not be allowed to compete in the leagues. We have also achieved club mark status.
